About This Camp
The Shelby County Quail & Duck Camp was held the weekend of Jan. 20-22, 2023 with host Macedonia North Baptist Church in Vincent. Church members Tut and Kathy Touchstone opened their home to provide lodging for all the Campers and the 30-30 Ministries’ staff. Home-cooked meals were provided by church members and served at the church.
The Camp consisted of shooting instruction, two quail hunts on Saturday and a bonus duck hunt on Sunday morning prior to attending church at Macedonia North. All hunts were managed and staffed by Schillings Gun Dogs and their training facility near the church.
Tut heard about 30-30 Ministries in June 2022 when the ministry mailed out 100 letters to local churches in the Birmingham area prior to attending the 2022 World Deer Expo as an exhibitor. The letters invited church members to come and meet 30-30 Ministries and learn how to get involved. Tut and Macedonia North’s pastor Adam Armstrong met and discussed the possibility of hosting a Camp. While Tut didn’t attend the World Deer Expo, he did contact 30-30 Ministries in the fall of 2022 to learn more about the ministry itself and the requirements for hosting a Camp.
Camp Managers
Tony & Cindy Smith
Tony and Cindy Smith have been involved with 30-30 Ministries since Nov. 22, 2014 when they stopped by a Morgan County Deer Camp for lunch. Tony had been recently saved and felt led to share a portion of his testimony with the group of deer hunters.
After that Camp, the Smiths spent a few years faithfully serving at various 30-30 Ministries’ Camps and then felt God’s call to become 30-30 Ministries’ Camp Managers. Their first managed Camp was a Turkey & Trout Camp in Habersham County the weekend of March 24-26, 2017. They now manage several Camps throughout the year.
Tony and Cindy live in Newton County and were married Jan. 2, 1987. Tony was saved March 9, 2014 and was baptized March 16, 2014. Cindy was saved in the summer of 1984 and was baptized on June 11, 2021 at the 30-30 Ministries’ Shark Camp.
