Bleckley Co., Georgia Deer Camp

Ruth Baptist Church

About This Camp

The Bleckley County Deer Camp has a rich history with 30-30 Ministries. The partnership began in 2011 when Ruth Baptist Church member Bob Johnson requested an in-person meeting with 30-30 Ministries to discuss how his church could use hunting as a platform to share the Gospel. The result of that meeting was a Turkey Camp the weekend of March 30-April 1, 2012, hosted at nearby Ruth Church And Community Clubhouse.

From 2013-2019, Ruth Baptist Church continued to host their annual springtime Turkey Camp. Beginning with their 2015 Camp, a CAMO Sunday Service at Ruth Baptist Church was bolted on to their annual event. In March 2020, Ruth members made the decision to change their Turkey Camp to a Hog Camp since turkey populations were on the decline.

With news of an aggressive cancer that had fallen on Ruth Baptist Church member Warren Keily, the Ruth team elected not to host a Camp in 2021. Warren also acted as Camp Manager for the Ruth Camps from 2018-2020. Warren passed on May 25, 2022, but at his visitation, the troops were rallying in Warren’s name and his legacy to plan the next 30-30 Ministries’ Camp. They did just that, hosting a Deer Camp the weekend of Jan. 6-8, 2023.

Camp Managers

Troy & Shannon Davis

Troy and Shannon Davis, of Cochran, saw their first-ever 30-30 Ministries’ Camp the weekend of Nov. 21-23, 2014 in Morgan County. From that Deer Camp, Troy would go on to serve in Camps, mostly in the role of a devotional leader. Shannon was always at his side for support.

The weekend of Oct. 8-10, 2021 would mark the first time Troy and Shannon would come together as Camp Managers when they facilitated the Dooly County Deer Camp with hosts Harmony Baptist Church and Redhawk Planation. They have since managed several other Camps and always have a heart to travel to new Camps and encourage them.

Troy and Shannon were married Feb. 14, 2011. Troy said he thought he was saved his whole life but now looks back and believes it wasn’t until he was in a drug rehabilitation center in 2014 when he surrendered his life to Jesus. Similarly, Shannon made a decision at an early age but says it wasn’t until 2011 when she dedicated her life to Christ. Troy is the pastor at Christian Friends Baptist Church in Hawkinsville.
