About This Camp

The Emanuel County Deer Camp began the weekend of Oct. 9-11, 2015 with host Hawhammock Baptist Church.

A few years prior to the start of 30-30 Ministries, Allen Dykes met with Brad Gill, who would begin 30-30 Ministries in 2010, regarding an outdoor ministry program he had at his church in Putnam County, Georgia. Allen clearly had an interest for using his passion of hunting to serve Jesus. It wasn’t until Allen visited a 30-30 Ministries’ Hog Camp on May 10, 2014 in Washington County when a vision began to form on how he could host a Deer Camp through his home church of Hawhammock.

The first eight Emanuel County Camps—which included seven Deer Camps and one Turkey Camp—were hosted at Hawhammock, while Campers hunted nearby properties. Beginning in 2022, lodging and some deer hunting was moved to Flat Creek Lodge. Hawhammock still provided the necessary manpower to host the Camp and included their usual CAMO Sunday Service with their congregation as a part of the weekend Camp.

Camp Managers

Jeff & Zenda Horne

Jeff and Zenda Horne first saw a 30-30 Ministries’ Camp after receiving an invitation from Brian & Marci McCranie to help serve a meal at their Feb. 2-4, 2013 Quail Camp in Dodge County. From that initial Camp, Jeff and Zenda began to grow big hearts for serving inside of 30-30 Ministries. Jeff led his first 30-30 Ministries’ devotion on Feb. 7, 2014 at Quail Camp. From there, they escalated into regular volunteers.

Jeff and Zenda first took on the position as Camp Managers at a Dodge County Deer Camp hosted at Camp Stillwater the weekend of Oct. 24-26, 2014. Since then, they have operated as Camp Managers all over Georgia, and Jeff has even managed 30-30 Ministries’ Camps in South Africa. In the earlier years of managing camps, their two sons Brenden and Bowen often attended with them. They enjoyed bringing card games and playing with the Campers in between hunting and fishing hours.

Jeff and Zenda were married Aug. 25, 1990. Jeff was saved in 1987, and Zenda was saved in 1979. They attend Antioch 2 Baptist Church in Milan. Zenda was officially welcomed as a 30-30 Ministries’ Board Member on May 22, 2021.
